Lynnfield Girls Hockey

Lynnfield Youth Hockey will have four All Girls Teams for the 2010-2011 season and will play in the Middlesex Yankee Conference Girls League.  The girls teams are under the same tuition structure as the other travel teams within Lynnfield Youth Hockey and will enjoy the great benefits of a very strong hockey program.

The Girls teams will practice once or twice a week, have skills sessions throughout the year, opportunities to play in tournaments and play in at least one game a week.

The Middlesex Yankee Conference Girls League was formed in 2001 to fill a tremendous void for a quality girls league in Massachusetts.  The league has grown tremendously over the last several years and had over 100 teams compete at various levels ranging from U10 to High School in the 2009-2010 season.  Each level is split into an upper, middle and lower division, allowing for different levels of play to compete within each division.  This provides great parity allowing inexperienced teams to develop and grow without having to play against more experienced teams.  The Lynnfield Program currently has a U10 team and U12 team playing in the MYCGL and the Lynnfield teams include girls from Lynnfield, North Reading and Peabody.

The U-10, U-12 and U-14 divisions play a 25 game regular season with league playdown and championship games at the end.  The schedule consists of one game (once in a while two games) a weekend in various rinks in Massachusetts most of which are located on the Route 128 belt.  Check out the website at www.mycgl.com for more information on the league.

Girl’s hockey has been one of the fastest growing sports in the
United States over the past several years and continues its upward climb.  Lynnfield is looking to build the girls program and provide a solid hockey program catering to girls not only in Lynnfield but its surrounding communities where girls do not have a team of their own.  By supporting and entering the MYCGL this year it will help insure that the girls will have a league of their own for many years to come.

Each year more high schools are adding girls’ varsity and junior varsity hockey teams. With all the growth at the younger levels, many more truly experienced players will be filling their high school teams.  Lynnfield is no excepion as there is great interest from girls wanting to lace them up and it would be fantastic to see The Lady Pioneers take the ice one day.

Who is Eligible to Play?

Any Girls ages 6 – 14 are eligible to play. Lynnfield Youth Hockey welcomes girls of all skating abilities from Lynnfield or any SURROUNDING COMMUNITIES.  Prior playing experience is not required however at least year of a WAP league, buzzer hockey or skating instruction is highly recommended.

Lynnfield is looking for girls with BIRTH YEARS 1996 to 2004 for the upcoming season and Lynnfield Youth Hockey offers incentives for girls who will commit to playing goalie full time.
